Cooling Towers and Chillers
Hickory, NC
- This project included the replacement of the entire chilled water plant serving the hospital, which included the installation of the following equipment:
- Three (3) 1,200-ton centrifugal chillers
- Three (3) 1,200-ton evaporative cooling towers
- New condenser water pumps, primary chilled water pumps, and secondary chilled water pumps (nine (9) total pumps)
- New BAS controls and refrigerant monitoring system
- The project was completed in several phases to ensure at least two chillers two cooling towers remained operational throughout 10-month construction period.
- All work was done within the footprint of the existing Central Energy Plant. This required detailed planning of phasing and shutdowns so that hospital operations were maintained at all times.
- Due to the long lead time of the chillers, Charlotte Engineers, LLP provided an equipment procurement package so that the Owner could purchase the chillers separately to expedite the construction schedule.
